Mayor Brent Latham joined Countywide discussion on Building Safety

In the wake of the tragedy that occurred in Surfside, Mayor Brent Latham represented North Bay Village yesterday at a Countywide discussion regarding building safety with South Florida Officials. “North Bay Village is focused on assuring residents’ peace of mind by establishing best practices and actively monitoring building safety in our community. We will continue to be an active participant in the regional discussions on building safety, and we are ahead of the curve in inspections and transparency on the state of our buildings” said Mayor Brent Latham. In NBV, we are committed to addressing any concerns related to building safety.

While we are reviewing all multi-family and commercial buildings in the Village, we are prioritizing reviews for buildings that match at least two elements of the following criteria:

  • Are 20 years old or older
  • Are 4 stories or higher
  • Have been issued permits for structural repairs
  • Are due for a building re-certification (for the 40-year recertification and every 10 years after)
