North Bay Village, FL – North Bay Village Vice Mayor Marvin Wilmoth was featured in the Miami Herald for his efforts in championing workforce housing legislation to benefit local workers.

North Bay Village is one of only a few cities in Miami-Dade to offer incentives for developers to build workforce housing. The Village has approved the construction of two rental apartment communities—Shoma  Bay at the corner of Kennedy Causeway and East Treasure Drive with 333 apartments, and the other at 1755 Kennedy Causeway with 201 apartments.

Five percent (5%) of the units at each location will be designated housing for residents making between 80% and 100% of the area median income. At Shoma Bay, 17 units will be reserved, and at 1755 Kennedy Causeway, 11 units will be reserved.

“If we want to have an operable city and county, we need to make sure we’re providing for those who are keeping our cities operating,” said Marvin Wilmoth.

To incentivize developers to reserve at least 5% of their units for local workers, the Village’s zoning code offers the ability to request density bonuses. These bonuses are based on the percentage of units reserved and can increase if 10% of the units are within the range.
