North Bay Village police officers recognized as July’s Officers of the Month

During the Miami-Dade County Association of Chiefs of Police (MDCACP) monthly dinner, two of our very own North Bay Village police officers were honored for July’s Officer of the Month.

Sergeant Norlan Benitez and K-9 Officer Marcel Ascanio were nominated for their bravery and courage in response to the fiery hit-and-run car crash on JFK Causeway where a mother and her two daughters were killed.  Both Sgt. Benitez and Officer Ascanio put their lives on the line by entering the burning car attempting to rescue the victims.  

We thank both officers for their efforts and congratulate them on receiving this prestigious honor.
