Deputy Chief Sam Bejar designated as Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) Emeritus

This past weekend, our very own Deputy Chief Sam Bejar was designated as Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) Emeritus in a ceremony at the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) Drugs, Alcohol, and Impaired Driving Conference.

A DRE is a law enforcement officer that has undergone rigorous and lengthy training to recognize impairment in drivers under the influence of drugs (in addition to alcohol). The IACP coordinates the International Drug Evaluation and Classification (DEC) Program with support from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) of the U.S. Department of Transportation.

Deputy Chief Bejar served continuously for 30 years as a DRE and DRE Instructor. As a DRE Emeritus, Deputy Chief Bejar is recognized for outstanding and extended contributions as a DRE.

Congratulations on this recognition, Deputy Chief Bejar!
