From September 28 through October 11, 2026, you may notice a slight change in your tap water. Here’s what you need to know:
What’s Happening?
The Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department (WASD)<https://www.miamidade.gov/global/water/home.page> is conducting its annual chlorine conversion, temporarily switching from combined chlorine (chloramine) to free chlorine to clean the water distribution system. This routine process has been conducted since 1983, in coordination with the Florida Department of Health and the Miami-Dade Department of Regulatory and Economic Resources (RER).
What You Might Notice:
* Your water might taste or smell slightly like chlorine.
* You may see WASD crews flushing fire hydrants and water lines in your area, which can cause brief drops in water pressure or cloudy water. If water appears cloudy, let it run for three to five minutes until it clears.
Key Points to Remember:
✅ Your water is completely safe to drink and use as normal.
🕒 This is temporary – only for two weeks.
🧪 The change in taste/smell is normal and not harmful.
🐾 It’s safe for pets too (except for tropical fish – see note below).
Special Considerations:
If you have tropical fish or use water for medical treatments (like dialysis), please consult a professional about removing chlorine from your water during this time.
