79th Street Bridge – FDOT

Your Village Commission and Village Staff have been in close contact with the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) regarding permanent bridge repairs due to continuing issues of the FDOT-operated West 79th Street Bridge.

The West 79th Street Bridge is scheduled for a complete mechanical overhaul starting in August 2022. In addition, according to FDOT, the recent malfunctions “have been thoroughly addressed and corrective actions have been taken to avoid similar reoccurrences in the near future.” FDOT has also agreed to set up its own notification system for any future bridge announcements. These notifications will give our residents access to immediate alerts compared to our current emergency notification, which relies on several channels of communication with FDOT before bridge alerts are sent out to the public.

The Village will share further updates as they become available, including a timeline for the mechanical overhaul.
