Weather Alert: Miami-Dade County Under Tropical Storm Warning and Flood Watch

Miami-Dade County is now under a Tropical Storm Warning and Flood Watch as Hurricane Helene continues to develop. This means tropical storm-force winds are expected within the next 36 hours. Flood watches remain in effect until Friday morning as scattered tropical downpours have already started moving through South Florida. Our area can expect heavy rain off and on which could lead to localized flooding. Here’s what you need to know:
Storm Monitoring and Preparations:
* Our North Bay Village Police Department is closely monitoring the storm’s progress
* Our pump stations will be monitored before, during and after the storm
* Our Public Works team has been working diligently to prepare our infrastructure:
* All drains have been cleared of debris
* Inlet filter storm screens are being removed
* An additional mobile pump has been installed on North Bay Island
* Sandbags are being distributed to residents
* Garbage pickup remains on schedule
Expected Conditions:
* Gusty winds and heavy rainfall
* Possible flooding in low-lying areas
Safety Measures:
* Code Enforcement is inspecting construction sites throughout the Village to check for hazards and ensure everything is secure
* NBVPD Marine Patrol personnel are visiting all NBV marinas to ensure property safety measures are implemented
* Saturday Yoga in the Park has been cancelled
* Residents can pick up copies of the Miami-Dade County Official Hurricane Readiness Guide in Village Hall
* All Village parks will close Thursday morning until further notice, this includes the Dog Park and Vogel Park
Resident Preparedness:
* Secure any loose items on your balconies, patios, or in your yards
* Stay informed by following official Village communications and local weather reports.
* Use caution driving and avoid flooded streets
