North Bay Village Joins Million Orchid Project Initiative

North Bay Village has launched a new beautification initiative that’s bringing natural beauty to Treasure Island through partnership with Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden’s Million Orchid Project. Residents will now see native Florida orchids nestled within trees, adding tropical beauty to the heart of the Bay.
North Bay Village is now part of the world’s largest orchid conservation program, which has successfully planted over 500,000 orchids throughout South Florida with help from over 50 community partners and more than 100 schools. Students and volunteers are actively growing orchids in their classrooms and cultivating ten species of rare native orchids from seed.
As you stroll along Mutiny Avenue, Hispanola Avenue, Cutlass Avenue, Buccaneer Avenue, Bounty Avenue, Adventure Avenue, and West Treasure Drive, keep your eyes peeled for these gorgeous additions to our urban canopy. The orchids have been carefully planted within the trees themselves, making them a natural part of our existing landscape.
These rare native Florida orchids will gradually bloom into vibrant displays of colors throughout our tree-lined streets. As these orchids grow, you will see our Public Works team members providing special care to ensure their success.
