The North Bay Village Police Department seeks to inform residents about a recent spike in criminal activity over the past month. These incidents include a couple of thefts involving vehicles and vehicle break-ins. The crimes in question have occurred at various locations throughout Treasure Island and at different times in the early morning hours. At this time, it is unclear if there is any connection between the incidents. Investigations indicate that some of these crimes were opportunistic, involving unlocked vehicles or vehicles with key fobs left inside. Detectives are actively pursuing leads in several cases. If anyone is observed loitering or biking at a time that is not typical for doing those activities, please call the North Bay Village Police Department (305) 758-2626.
To ensure the safety and security of our community, the North Bay Village Police Department urges residents to stay vigilant and report anything that you find suspicious. Safety is a shared responsibility, and the Department offers the following recommended precautions:
* Always lock your vehicle doors.
* Remove your keys or key fobs when leaving the vehicle unattended. (For newer vehicles, unlocked vehicles may have side mirrors that stay engaged, signaling the fob is inside.)
* Park in a well-lit area if possible.
* Avoid leaving valuables in your car, especially in visible places.
* Consider installing a tracking system on your vehicle.
* Add security cameras to your property.
* Report suspicious activity by calling the police at (305) 758-2626 or, in emergencies, dial 911. You can also request a watch order on your residence while you’re away.
The North Bay Village Police Department remains committed to maintaining one of the safest communities in Miami-Dade County. We value our strong partnership with our residents and rely on this collaboration to address the increase in recent activity.
