The time immediately after a disaster is critical to helping yourself, your family, and your neighbors. First Responders may not be able to reach your area immediately due to excessive flooding or debris obstructing the road. You can be the one to provide immediate help!
The North Bay Village Commission, Emergency Manager and the North Bay Village Police Department (NBVPD) in partnership with Miami-Dade County’s Department of Emergency Management, are proud to offer residents of North Bay Village the opportunity to participate in the Neighborhood Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program.
What is CERT?
CERT is a nationally recognized initiative that trains community members to assist their neighborhoods before, during, and after disasters such as hurricanes, floods, and other emergencies. This hands-on, interactive course empowers residents with the skills and knowledge needed to respond effectively in times of crisis.
Skills You’ll Gain:
Upon completing the CERT training, participants will be equipped to:
1. Enhance the Village’s overall disaster preparedness
2. Perform light search and rescue operations
3. Provide initial medical aid and triage
4. Assess damage and organize resources
5. Put out small fires and promote fire safety
You don’t need special skills to start – just a willingness to help your community and commit to the training. CERT welcomes people of all backgrounds, ages (18+), and physical abilities. The program is designed to work within your capabilities while maximizing your contribution to community safety.
Training Details:
North Bay Village is looking for 20 residents to form our inaugural neighborhood CERT team. The training is a combination of online training, and two in-person classes held at Village Hall.
