FDOT beginning traffic study at Harbor Drive & Kennedy Causeway to improve safety for drivers and pedestrians

Officials from the Florida Department of Transportation will begin collecting data for a traffic study at Harbor Drive and Kennedy Causeway this week. FDOT will be tracking the number and speed of cars turning from the Causeway onto Harbor Island. The goal is to improve safety for both drivers and pedestrians at this intersection. FDOT workers have installed automatic traffic recorders that will record vehicle volume and speeds. These are rubber tubes that have been installed across all lanes of travel. These will be removed Friday September 16th once the field data has been collected. Drivers will also see FDOT workers next week at the intersection as part of the study. FDOT plans to send the Village results at the end of November and will share their recommendations. Any improvements made to turn signals onto Harbor Island will also be made for North Bay Island.
