WASD Monitoring Reveals Water Main Concern

As part of the Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department’s (WASD) regular monitoring and assessments of its infrastructure, we have recently identified that a portion of the 72-inch raw water main located along West 3rd Avenue between West 11th Street and West 12th Street in the City of Hialeah requires proactive rehabilitation to strengthen the system and prevent potential future ruptures. This 72-inch raw water main is critical, as it is one of two mains that supply most of the raw water treated at the Preston Water Treatment Plant, which provides essential water services to residents and businesses throughout much of northern Miami-Dade County.
The water main rehabilitation work and all construction activities are scheduled to start on Wednesday, November 5, 2025. The project is anticipated to be completed in approximately six (6) months. Work will take place 24 hours a day, with the most impactful activities occurring during daytime hours to reduce nighttime noise impacts.
During this phase of the project, some areas in northern and northeastern Miami-Dade may experience occasional reduced water pressure, particularly during peak morning and evening hours. High-rise residences should have building maintenance staff monitor water flow to higher floors and make temporary adjustments if needed.
WASD staff will employ mitigating actions to minimize impacts on consumers. These actions include closely monitoring water pressure and potentially installing additional pressure recorders to ensure the system can sustain these conditions for the six-month construction period. Additionally, staff will be on standby to respond to any complaints or emergency situations. Should you need to report a complete service interruption, please contact the Department’s Emergency Communications Center at 305-274-9272.
We know this can be an inconvenience; however, being able to identify and proactively address infrastructure repairs prior to failure results in a lesser impact on the surrounding community, as well as the duration and cost of water service impacts.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation, as we continue our mission to bring you safe, reliable drinking water and wastewater services while executing upgrades that will serve our residents and support the public’s health for decades to come.
