North Bay Village’s leadership is taking proactive steps at the Florida State Capitol this week.
Our Mayor, Commission, and dedicated staff are hard at work lobbying for essential state appropriations to fuel vital projects in our community. Productive meetings with Florida House and Senate members pave the way for a brighter future.
The Village Commission met with Senator Shevrin Jones, Representative Fabian Basabe, Senator Jason Pizzo, Senator Alexis Calatayud, Senator Ana Maria Rodriguez and Representative Juan Porras.
The Commission also met with Deputy Secretary for Ecosystems Restoration Adam Blalock.
Our elected leaders are hoping to win state funding for the following Village projects:
The Harbor Island Roadway Improvements Project involves design and construction of a traffic circle and roadway markings at one of the Village’s busiest intersections. This will improve traffic flow and improve safety for pedestrians, bicyclists, and motor vehicles.
The North Bay Village Emergency and Municipal Complex project will build a fire station within the Village’s boundaries as well as provide new office space for police and Village personnel.
Leaders are also lobbying for funds that will be used to purchase two VAC trucks to help Village staff in their efforts to keep the Village’s drainage systems free of debris and collage, preventing sanitary sewer overflow, and mitigating potential environmental incidents.
Finally, our Mayor and Commission our lobbying to fund Phase 3 of the North Bay Island Wastewater Pump Station. This shovel-ready project furthers the Village’s goal of restoring its Village-wide wastewater infrastructure to prevent pollutants from entering Biscayne Bay. The new stations support future development and improve transmission to the County’s treatment plant. Backup generators and SCADA technology mitigate the threat of system failures due to natural disasters.
